Wisconsin Well Woman Program
Quotes from patients and public health providers:
“Targeting Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin in attempts to limit their operations is a disservice to our residents, disrupts continuity of care, reduces access to care and is counterproductive toward reducing Wisconsin’s health care costs.” - Winnebago County Health Officer Director Douglas Gieryn
“Withholding the Well Woman Program contract from Planned Parenthood only serves to prevent vulnerable women from receiving preventative and cost-effective cancer care from their chosen and trusted provider.” -Outagamie County Health Officer, Melody Bockenfeld
PPWI's Partnership with the Well Woman Program:
Planned Parenthood has been a proud partner with the State of Wisconsin in administering the Well Woman Program since its inception in 1995. For sixteen years, Planned Parenthood's role in the Well Woman Program has been regarded as a model due to their strong community relationships, referral networks, and because women have long trusted them for accurate information and professional non-judgmental health care.
- Planned Parenthood works closely with the state to coordinate WWWP in four high volume counties. PPWI/WWWP Coordinators play a critical role in helping high risk women access care quickly and ensure that continuity of care is maintained:
- enroll women in the program;
- track their appointments;
- schedule additional diagnostic services;
- make referrals;
- enroll women in the Well Woman Medicaid Program if cervical or breast cancer is detected.
- PPWI has been a WWWP coordinator since the program began a decade and half ago. Many county health departments see Planned Parenthood as a gateway to detecting cervical and breast cancer in their community. County health departments look to PPWI staff for training and as a critical resource for WWWP providers statewide.
- Other community health providers refer women under WWWP to Planned Parenthood for the screenings they need. PPWI serves women under the Well Woman Program across the state. In fact, PPWI has the highest volume of pap tests (the initial screens for cervical cancer) of any other single health care provider in the state.
