PPWI Health Center Closures

Passed Assembly 60-38 on 6/14/11
Passed Senate 19-14 on 6/16/11
Signed by Gov. Walker on 6/26/11

In the 2011-2013 Biennial State Budget, Governor Walker and right wing conservatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood. While Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin worked hard to minimize the impact of those funding cuts on its patients, five rural health centers were forced to close. These health centers provided essential health care services for approximately 3,100 patients in the communities of Beaver Dam, Chippewa Falls, Johnson Creek, Shawano, and Fond du Lac.

The right wing conservatives who voted to end funding for patient care at Planned Parenthood may have turned their backs on those who are in need of health care, but Planned Parenthood will not. We understand the importance of essential and quality health care and will continue providing health care for people in the remaining 22 health centers across the state.

For nearly 80 years, Planned Parenthood has been here for those in need of quality, affordable health care. Every day our team of health care professionals provides our patients with essential health care services including cancer screenings, wellness exams, birth control, STD testing and treatment, and referrals to a network of providers across Wisconsin.
