Your Daughter...Your Sister...Your Mother EVERY 2 MINUTES A WOMAN IS RAPED IN THE UNITED STATES. |
|
Yet, Senator Tom Reynolds OPPOSES Compassionate Care for Rape Victims (SB 166). Victims of rape deserve compassionate and comprehensive medical care, including access to emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy after an assault. Emergency contraception (EC) is a high dosage of birth control pills that prevents pregnancy if taken within 120 hours after unprotected sex. The sooner EC is taken, the more effective it is in preventing pregnancy. |
Rape
victims say they need emergency rooms to provide comprehensive
medical care, including access to emergency contraception.
"I went to the
hospital...I wasn't told that taking emergency contraception could
prevent pregnancy after I was raped. They just cleaned up my
bruises and scrapes and sent me home. The trauma from a rape
is too great to expect victims to know all the questions to ask."
