Congratulations, Governor Doyle!
Model Leader Wins Stand Up for Women's Health Award

Madison, WI - Governor Jim Doyle was honored by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) in Los Angeles on Thursday for his steadfast commitment to the health and safety of Wisconsin women.  PPAF joined Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) in endorsing Governor Doyle in the 2006 gubernatorial election.

"This award was very well deserved, because Governor Doyle has been standing up for women's health throughout his career and from the minute he took office.  He respects each individual's right to make their own health care decisions," said PPAWI Public Policy Director Chris Taylor. "He is a true champion for women’s health."

Governor Doyle's list of accomplishments on behalf of women's health is impressive:

  • Earlier this month, Doyle rejected $600,000 in Title V federal abstinence education funds for fiscal year 2007 so that Wisconsin can offer complete, medically accurate information about sexually transmitted infections and contraception.

  • Doyle has vetoed seven anti-choice bills, including a law that would have allowed people to bring concealed weapons into family planning clinics.

  • Doyle opposes allowing pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control.

  • Doyle supports public funds for family planning for low-income women.

"Governor Doyle, on behalf of the women of Wisconsin, thank you!" said Taylor.
