Planned Parenthood
Announces Launch of Unprecedented Campaign Effort
Focus
on McCain and Palin's Dangerous, Out of Touch Stand on Women's Health
Madison, WI – Today, with less than 30
days to go until Election Day, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin and
Planned Parenthood Action Fund of America announced the second phase of their
joint campaign to mobilize over 151,000 supporters in critical districts across
Wisconsin to elect supporters of women's
health on the state and national levels. This unprecedented effort has already
included the launch of three television ads and an aggressive door to door
campaign. Starting today, it will now
include an aggressive mail and phone
campaign targeting over 151,000 voters across the state.
The first mailer arriving inญญญญ voters'
mailboxes by the weekend highlights how dangerously out of touch John McCain
and Sarah Palin are on women's health.
Both McCain and Palin oppose responsible comprehensive sex education
that includes information about abstinence and birth control, and funding for
breast and cervical cancer screenings for low-income women. This mailer also features Senator Dan
Kapanke, state Senate candidate Chad Fradette and five Assembly candidates and
their dangerous policies on women’s health.
"During his 26 year tenure in
the United States Senate, John McCain has cast a stunning 125 votes against
women's health and economic well-being," stated Chris Taylor, Public
Policy Director for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI). "Wisconsin women need to know just how
dangerously out of touch John McCain and Sarah Palin are when it comes to the
issues that matter to women and their families."
A second mailer, also hitting homes by the
weekend, again highlights how dangerously out of touch McCain-Palin are by
opposing compassionate treatment of rape victims and abortion, even in the case
of rape and incest.
"Wisconsin voters should be concerned about
incumbents like Senator Dan Kapanke and Representative Karl Van Roy and new
candidates such as Jo Egelhoff who want to turn back the clock on women's
health. Most of these candidates oppose access to basic birth control, the very
means women rely on to prevent unintended pregnancy and reduce the incidence of
abortion. All of these candidates want
to outlaw abortion even in the most tragic circumstances, including when a
woman is the victim of rape and incest," states Taylor. "Women deserve better than any of these
candidates who oppose women's access to basic and necessary health care.
Through this final outreach effort we are confident that voters in Wisconsin will reject the extreme policies
of these anti-women's health candidates."
