Wisconsin Primary Key for Women's Health
Highlights endorsed advocates on the eve of primary election day

Madison, WI – On the eve of the Wisconsin primary, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) is mobilizing voters to turn out to support their endorsed pro-women's health candidates:

Pedro Colon, Assembly District 08 (Milwaukee)

Leon Young, Assembly District 16 (Milwaukee)

Barbara Toles, Assembly District 17 (Milwaukee)

Christine Sinicki, Assembly District 20 (Milwaukee)

Marlin Schneider, Assembly District 72 (Wisconsin Rapids)

Gary Sherman, Assembly District 74 (Ashland)

Judy Reas, Assembly District 87 (Park Falls)

Chris Danou, Assembly District 91 (Trempealeau)

"For women, this is an absolutely critical election," stated Chris Taylor, Public Policy Director for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI).   "The challenge to ensure women's continued access to basic health care in Wisconsin is far from over. Currently, 71 of the 133 legislators who are elected to represent all of us oppose basic prevention-based health care like birth control and comprehensive sex education."

That's why PPAWI has launched an extensive voter mobilization effort leading up to the general election on November 4, aimed at turning out the vote for pro-choice candidates. By Election Day, PPAWI will have made almost one-half million voter contacts through the use of mail, phone, door-to-door canvasses and e-advocacy.

PPAWI's endorsed candidates have demonstrated their commitment to the progressive health care standards and values that are core to PPAWI's mission.   It is imperative to support candidates who support access to prevention based health care like birth control and comprehensive sex education, the very things that we rely upon to make informed, responsible decisions to prevent unintended pregnancy, enhance maternal and child health and reduce the incidence of abortion.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us to make sure that women’s rights are protected," said Taylor. "Our vote will keep pro-choice incumbents in office, and help pro-choice challengers unseat those elected officials who have relentlessly attacked women’s access to basic health care."
